Happy 7th Birthday Chrissie!

(1st grade school photo)

SEVEN?! Really, where has the time gone.  Oh how I love this girl.  She is the sunshine in my life.

This past year, Chrissie has really taken off in her reading.  She's accomplished a lot with school, violin, soccer, and ballet.  She is still sweet but strong.  And a wonderful example, even to me.  She's patient with both Matthew and Jane.  The perfect oldest sister.

A couple of comments from her teachers in her latest report card :
Her music teacher:  "Chrissie has a beautiful singing voice and is very engaging when performing on stage. She enjoys acting and is not afraid to emote or to be expressive with gesture and action. Chrissie is a quick learner and can be relied upon to remember anything that is taught or to follow to the letter any direction given. She is certainly a quiet and respectful leader in this class."

And then her teacher said: "she is so positive and full of life and energy! She not only enjoys our classroom, but also takes her positive attitude and zest for life with her to each of her specials. She adores her mommy and daddy!"

Birthday Celebration:

We started off with a special dinner date with me on Saturday night (her birthday was Sunday).  As part of my new goals for the year, I realized my kids don't get a lot of individual time with me, so I'm trying to have a special date with them once a week.  Something as simple as going to the grocery store with just him or her.  For our special dinner I gave Chrissie a journal and talked about goal setting and making a plan to accomplish those goals.  We talked about her baptism next year and what she wanted to do to prepare for it.  It was fun just being together.  She could endlessly talk without be interrupted by another sibling.

 Birthday Breakfast

She's the best.  Always happy to help with the little ones.

 Birthday Cake

Jane singing to Chrissie. For the second year in the row Chrissie wanted a horse birthday. I made her one for her 4th birthday and ever since then she's wanted that exact cake.  But this year I changed it up a bit.  I made an ice cream cake (her request) in the shape of a horse (from a horse shaped cake pan). Of course her gifts were all horse themed.

Vanessa, I just read through your blog back through Daniel's birth--how fun to "catch up!" Your kids are growing up so much. Remember last year at this time, when we were both sick and trying not to be miserable? Daniel's adorable, as are all of your kids. I can't get over how old Jane looks! It looks like Arizona has been treating you well, and that you've been keeping busy, as usual. I miss you guys. Say hi to Rick and the kids for me...
