Christmas Eve 2011

Matthew was so excited Christmas Eve morning to see the sun shining.  He came running to find me and shouted, "The sun is out! I can wear my shorts!" The kids spent Christmas Eve day exploring the woods and playing outside.

Christmas Eve dinner and festivities.

I think it only appropriate my Dad present the cookies.  He teased me ruthlessly for the amount of cookies I made.  I baked around 8 different cookie recipes, which meant we had A LOT of cookies.  In Germany, cookies are the favored dessert at Christmas time.  So, in trying to embrace the culture, I made various cookies that all came from a German food magazine.

Chrissie put on a little violin concert for us.

We acted out the Nativity.

Matthew was a "red bird" (aka. Shepherd).
We sang Christmas songs, some in German and some in English.  Chrissie insisted we sing, "We wish you a Merry Christmas," in German, which she taught us and which meant she sang a solo.  Our favorite was singing "Oh Tannenbaum" in German.

Ah good times...my mom and I got the giggles after singing a note that was probably a little to high for our vocal range.  Or maybe we held on to it a wee bit too long.

Jane loves babies.  She could not get enough of Brookelyne.  Quite honestly who couldn't resist kissing those cheeks.
Chrissie had been saving that napkin for three weeks-just for Santa.  Somehow it survived packing and the long drive.  She was so excited to finally give it to Santa.
