Unterammergau: is as quaint as it gets. It is such a small village that it wasn't even on our road map.
Many of the houses had a barn attached to it for the livestock (mainly dairy cows). We actually saw people wearing lederhosen/dirndels for special occasions (you just don't see them in the north). Farmers with their tractors passed by on the cobble streets. Horses occasionally trotted along. Again I was perfectly content. I much prefer the small villages to the large bustling cities.
(our breakfast room)
We stayed at a sort of bed and breakfast type place.
The breakfast was delicious. There was a variety of fresh cheeses, tomatoes, meat, and rolls. As well as granola/musli, fresh yogurt, herbal iced tea, juice, and real hot chocolate-right off the stove, with milk not water. She (the owner) would also make boiled eggs which the kids loved to crack open.
Cousins reunited.
Chrissie, Thomasin, and Marta immediately bonded even though they hadn't seen each other for over a year (Matthew tagged along when he so desired).

I loved the double windows and the old style of the place we stayed: the doors, hinges, beds, everything was so well made. Unterammergau and Oberammergau are known for their wood carvings. And our room proved this to be true. In addition to the charm, the room was clean, very clean. Best of all we got all this lovely accommodation for the price of a Motel 6 in the states.

Jane was thoroughly entertained with cousin Harriet. Jane adored her. Harriet could even stop Jane from crying simply with her adorable face.
