Our first day

(the house next door)

It was hard to get up Sunday morning for nine o'clock church. We were all suffering from jet lag-the kids woke up at 1:30am and stayed up for three hours more. However, we managed...barely
I went to Kindergarten ( what Germans call nursery) with Jane and Matthew. It was so entertaining to hear two/three year olds speak German. Kindergarten was the place for me. I could understand about half of a two years old vocabulary-I'm making progress.
For the most part, church ended up being a three hour meditation exercise. I ended up with a headache partially from trying so hard to understand the language and partially due to lack of sleep.
We are living in the upstairs apartment of Michael and Karin Schulze. They've been so good to us. They picked us up at the airport and Karin took me grocery shopping. They fed us a delicious Sunday dinner. And after dinner we went for a walk with Michael and fed the chickens and horses on the farm properties near by. Then we had dessert and played games. Rick and I played the german version of Settlers with Karin and her son Martin-we tried to say everything in German, a very humbling experience, I felt like an idiot. Meanwhile Michael played games with the kids, and in the process taught the kids german.
The best part is since being here Chrissie can be heard speaking "german," which for now is mostly gibberish mixed with a few german words. In a couple of weeks she will be teaching me.

Perfect way to describe your church experience--"3-hour meditation"--and it's exactly what I experienced last time we were here! Thanks for inviting me to your blog Vanessa! :)
